An impacted tooth remains stuck in gum tissue or bone for various reasons. The area may be overcrowded so there’s no room for the teeth to emerge. For example, the jaw may be too small to fit the wisdom teeth. Teeth may also become twisted, tilted, or displaced as they try to emerge. This results in impacted teeth.Impacted wisdom teeth are very common.
Here are 5 common symptoms:
1. Pain. If you are experiencing pain in the back of your jaw, your wisdom teeth may not be growing properly either because there is not enough room in your jaw for them, or they are growing toward the opening of your mouth, which can cause your back molars to hurt.
2. Red gums and swelling around the teeth. When your teeth are impacted, your gums will swell mainly because of infection. Swelling around the infected area is common and will cause pain and redness in the gums. If this continues it may also cause damage to other the other molars.
3. Bad Breath or bad taste in mouth due to infection and/or debris building up in the area.
4. Headache/earache as pain can spread outward from the area or jaw ache as you are stretching the inflamed tissues.
5. Occassional swelling of the lymph nodes, which are effected by impacted teeth. Sometimes your wisdom tooth doesn’t have any other problems it has not grown enough to cut through the gum line and then cause this swelling of the lymph nodes.
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms. The sooner you catch the symptoms and get medical attention, the sooner you can solve the problem. Scheduling regular appointments with your dentist can help you to avoid many troubles of impacted teeth.
